Imagine That

This essay had to be written about something I believed in. I wrote my belief in imagination and creativity.

Have you ever seen a garden that is hidden by a waterfall, but the only way to access the garden is by stepping on specific stepping stones? I have, but only in my imagination. I believe in the power of imagination and creativity. Anyone can harness this power deep within themselves.
The world has so much to offer, but sometimes I want to escape it’s reality. When I was ten, I visited the garden behind the waterfall. The waterfall was a beautiful mix of cyan and baby blue. As I entered the garden, I was surrounded by roses, bluebells, bleeding hearts, and hydrangeas. There was even a moss covered bench. The sound of water grew quieter as I moved further into the garden and I came closer to a cardinal singing his sweet song. My friend and I spent hours dreaming up a perfect secret garden. The stepping stones were really only stairs that led into her basement, but we still had a secret code to get through our butcher paper waterfall. The sounds presented themselves from a boombox we hid, so it wouldn’t ruin the scene. My imagination brought this world to life, and I never wanted to leave.
I have read stories of author’s imaginations coming to life. Lewis Carroll wrote a story about a young English girl who wanted to escape reality through her daydreams. She was able to meet some curious characters that made her time in Wonderland an adventure. OZ became a land somewhere over the rainbow for L. Frank Baum’s children, when he spotted his dictionary that was labeled “O-Z”. A book is imagination and creativity bound together.
Albert Einstein said “Imagination is more important than knowledge...For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world.” Imagination isn’t something you learn about; it comes from within. I don’t believe imagination is for the young, but for the young in heart.  My imagination is the only weapon against reality.
